Col - lage: a piece of art made by sticking various different materials such as photographs and pieces of paper or fabric on to a backing.

 

The first collages came on the scene over 100 years ago when Pablo Picasso and  Georges Braque started ripping up paper, and pasting them down to create the first papiers colles. These decorative compositions have been incorporated into movements from Surrealism, Pop Art and they have an important role in art as more and more papers and other objects are found in contemporary paintings in the 21st century.

 

A lot of the materials in my collages come found papers, magazines and from older books that have been discarded, but now have been given a new life. It is amazing all the materials you can find from the inside covers, the spines of the books and even the inside pages are given prominent spots in a collage.
